Meet the clinicians at Dunegrass Counseling

Cheryl Kallio, LPC, therapist at Dunegrass Counseling in Grand Haven, Michigan

Cheryl Kallio LPC

Cheryl works with children, teens, adults, and couples facing trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, and life’s difficult transitions. She is passionate about helping people discover a stronger sense of identity, heal from painful experiences, and move toward lasting growth.

Her approach is compassionate, relational, and trauma-informed. Cheryl integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Sand Tray Therapy to help clients process difficult experiences, strengthen emotional resilience, and develop healthier ways of moving forward. For those who desire it, she also welcomes incorporating faith into the counseling process.

With more than a decade of clinical experience, Cheryl brings both professional expertise and genuine compassion to every session. She is co-founder of Dunegrass Counseling and Director of Dunegrass Healing, where she leads nature-based therapy experiences for adolescents that combine clinical care with the restorative power of the natural world. She believes healing often happens through authentic relationships, meaningful experiences, and reconnecting with what matters most.

Outside the office, Cheryl enjoys spending time with family and friends. You’ll often find her kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, cross-country skiing, riding her bike, or exploring the outdoors with her twin boys.

Joško Vukušić, LMSW, therapist at Dunegrass Counseling in Grand Haven, Michigan

I work with teens, adults, and couples facing anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, and life transitions. My goal is to provide a place where you can slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and move toward meaningful change.

My approach is both relational and evidence-based. I integrate EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), TEAM-CBT, and other trauma-informed approaches to help clients process difficult experiences, strengthen relationships, and develop practical ways to move forward.

With nearly two decades of experience in mental health, I strive to create an environment where people feel respected, understood, and supported. Therapy isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about working together to understand what’s getting in the way and finding a path that fits you.

I offer counseling in both English and Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian for clients who feel more comfortable speaking in their native language.

Amy Fairchild, LPC, therapist at Dunegrass Counseling in Grand Haven, Michigan

With over 20 years of experience as a school counselor, I have dedicated my career to supporting adolescents and young adults as they grow, overcome challenges, and achieve success. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Counseling. My passion is helping young people recognize their strengths, navigate life’s challenges, and create meaningful positive change. I utilize CBT and sand tray therapy, with Self-Defeating Behavior therapy. There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing people grow in confidence and reach their goals. I specialize in adolescents ages 10+ through young adults.

Intern

Life can feel incredibly heavy when you are navigating a constant storm of stress, self-doubt, or difficult life transitions. If you are feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or like past difficult experiences are still weighing you down, you do not have to carry that weight alone. I strive to be a steady, down-to-earth ally for individuals of all ages, including teens and adults, who just need a safe, reliable place to land.

My approach to therapy is built on being an exceptional listener and keeping things real.

Because I practice trauma-informed care, your emotional safety is my top priority. I do not view you as a problem to be fixed; I see you as a whole person with unique strengths. Together, we will use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to examine how your thoughts influence your feelings, break negative cycles, and build practical tools to help you feel more confident and grounded.

I hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Science.

This unique combination allows me to understand both the human, emotional side of mental health and the fascinating science behind how our brains and bodies react to stress and trauma.

I am proud to be completing my clinical internship at Dunegrass Counseling as a Limited Licensed Master of Social Work (LLMSW) intern. I practice under direct clinical supervision, ensuring you receive the highest quality of collaborative, team-based care.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, but I am here to make the process as comfortable as possible. Reach out to Dunegrass Counseling today, and let’s take that first step together.
